# Telephone (Room Object)
2
3
The telephone has a long history. It has come and gone, but been consistent enough to count as not limited time.
4
5
The telephone is an old Cisco IP phone, running exclusively Carpet's in-house self-hosted PBX server.
6
The phone has only ever had one destination to call, and that is the IP phone in Carpet's room.
7
8
## History
9
10
Originally, it was nearly impossible to place any calls with the phone. You could drive up on it and press random buttons, or knock the handset off of the tray. However, it was nearly impossible to dial 899 to call Carpet.
11
Later, Carpet added a big physical button that sits next to the phone, which was wired directly to a speed-dial button set up to dial the IP Phone in Carpet's bedroom.
12
13
After the addition of the big call carpet button, users could actually call him, and if he answers, they could talk to him using Text-To-Speech.
14
15
Sometimes, the phone would stop working. Some users had managed to flip it and move it around. The phone went away and came back at least once.
16
17
Eventually, Carpet added a voicemail box to his IP phone in his room, so Roomba Drivers can leave voice messages.
